Adding a PDF file to your Community Blog

To host a PDF file for a Blog we will have to make it alink for people to download/view it. To do this what we need to do is first upload the PDF to a freehosting site. This will keep the PDF file online for people to download it from. After we have it hosted we just need to make a link on the Blog for people to download it from. This would cause the PDF to open up in a new window on most peoples web browsers, if not then they could download it and open it from there. Here are some instructions taken from blogging basics 101 on how to host a PDF for Blogger:

"You can only upload pictures to your Blogger blog, you can’t upload
documents or pdf files. However, there is a work-around. You can upload your
document or pdf to a free host site such as scribd.com. An account with
scibd.com is free and allows you unlimited space forhosting your documents. This
helpful online application walks youthrough uploading your documents and then
sharing with your audience.
1. Create a free account with scribd.
2. Click the Upload Document button.
3. Click the title of the document you want to share. You will betaken to a
new page where you can add descriptions, change the titleof the document, add
tags, etc.
4. Click the Publish button. You will be taken to a new page withthat
document.
5. Click on the Share icon above the document. It looks like this:
Share
6. Copy the URL you are given.
7. Open Blogger and go to the post you want to edit. In your post, highlight
the word(s) you want to link to the pdf or document.
8. Click the Link button (looks like chainlink over a globe) andpaste the
URL of the document you uploaded to scribd in the box.
9. Save your work or publish."

  • Access free photo editing software online
  • Organize our posts with labels that show on the sidebar
  • Create links by highlighting text and using the link tool
  • Use gadgets and widgets that can be dragged into location (Save)
  • Understand differences between Content Management Systems and Blog Systems
  • Use blogger.com for organizing large amounts of information
  • Create horizontal links on blogger.com
  • Use Wordpress.com for a home base environment, especially to load documents/pdfs

Horizontal Links

To create a horizontal Text box just under the header to receive links, go to Layout - Edit HTML; scroll near the bottom of the code until you see the following section. You will need to paste in the code that is in RED to create a "false" title box for the links to go into.

Paste in the following code into the Text box that is just under the header. Click on Edit to do this.

Forms?

Does anyone know how to do forms on the blog? It would be very useful to allow people to sign up for things online. I actually figured out the HTML to put the form in. What I am unable to figure out is how to get the submit button to do anything like save or send me the info.

Suggestions?

Bill

Bill, I have had the following site recommended to me:

https://secure.wufoo.com/signup/

The Free level of account lets you create 3 forms, 3 reports, 10 fields, and 100 entries/month.

Another service is: http://www.surveygizmo.com/

Hope this helps - Pamela Roberts
